Paraphimosis

Paraphimosis is a condition in which the prepuce or foreskin of the prepuce is retracted and cannot be pulled out again. This slowly causes swelling of the glans which is the terminal part of the penis by impeding the vascular circulation in that area. The patient lands up with severe pain and swelling. This is a surgical emergency.

The patient requires reduction of the paraphimosis under local or general anesthesia. At a later date, the patient will require circumcision to prevent a similar episode in future.
